Boise looks to increase taxes, fees as it says it’s ‘constrained’ in budget

The City of Boise, under Mayor Lauren McLean, is looking to raise property taxes by the maximum amount allowed under Idaho law, plus increase fees on a number of services to citizens. McLean’s staff rolled out the recommendations during a budget workshop on Tuesday. The recommendations would need sign-off from the Boise City Council.

The city also plans to claw back some tax hikes it didn’t take in prior years, known as foregone taxes, to add even more dollars to the budget. In addition, the city says it is “exploring” going to voters to raise additional tax funds for public safety and facilities through a bond or levy. The city is also looking to raise impact fees on new development in fiscal year 2027.
