Liberty Creek softball’s quest for a state championship three-peat ended with consecutive losses in the TSSAA Class 3A tournament, to Crockett County and Alcoa.
The Wolves (24-9-1) had lost only once in their previous two 2A tournaments combined. They dropped a 4-3, all-day contest Wednesday to the Cavaliers, then committed four errors and allowed five unanswered runs Thursday against the Tornadoes to fall 5-2.
“It’s just the name of the game,” Liberty Creek coach Kelsey Cartwright said. “Everybody wants to talk about the bombs being hit, but defense wins games, fatigue or not. That’s something that we’ll be referencing next year and making sure that we learn from our mistakes, and we won’t make that same mistake again.”…
