Hundreds of Fayette County students would move schools under proposed redistricting plan

An estimated 749 elementary school students in Fayette County are being redistricted as part of a proposed plan for the 2027-28 school year, according to documents from a May 14 district meeting and shared by school officials Thursday.

The rezoning work is related to the expected fall 2027 opening of Helen Caise Wade Elementary on Greendale Road. Most likely to be affected are families with students attending Booker T. Washington, Coventry Oak, Meadowthorpe, and Sandersville elementary schools, district officials said in a news release Thursday night.

The district’s Right Size, Bright Future committee has finished a draft proposal for new elementary school attendance boundaries.
