Massachusetts residents search for the correct spelling of “schedule” more than any other word, according to an analysis of Google search data from the first five months of 2026.
The findings come ahead of the National Spelling Bee, scheduled for May 26-28. Word unscrambling experts at Unscramblerer.com analyzed search data from Jan. 1 through May 18, examining queries for “How do you spell” and “How to spell” using Google Trends and Ahrefs.
Nationally, “bougie” topped the list of most misspelled words with 134,400 searches, followed by “favorite” with 128,400 searches and “through” with 127,200 searches. Other frequently misspelled words include “business,” “tomorrow,” “because,” “definitely,” “beautiful,” “niece” and “separate.”
