TAUNTON, Mass. — Greystar has begun construction on a 390-unit apartment community at the long-vacant Whittenton Mills site in Taunton, marking what the company says will become the largest modular residential development in Massachusetts.
The project, located at 437 Whittenton Street, represents a major redevelopment effort for a former industrial property that had remained abandoned for decades. The 42-acre site, once home to more than a dozen 19th-century mill buildings, is being transformed into a large-scale multifamily community using modular construction technology that Greystar says will significantly accelerate the building process.
The global real estate developer and investment manager officially closed on the property in December, with environmental remediation, abatement, and demolition work beginning earlier this year.
