Small-town Mississippi police departments get new tool to address staffing shortages if this plan is approved

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – State leaders are working to give police departments and sheriff’s offices more ways to grow their forces with full-time certified staff by revising how part-time officers can get certified to work full-time.

The change would help small towns across Mississippi that rely on multiple part-time police officers. Some chiefs said the current process makes it difficult for many older officers to be certified full-time.
