Buffalo’s first-ever state park opens Friday and features a sprayground and a 13-foot steel buffalo (photos)

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the official completion of the first-ever state park in the City of Buffalo on Thursday.

The nearly $50 million investment at Buffalo Harbor State Park features a new 6,700-square-foot sprayground with 162 water elements and an expanded accessible playground equipped with swinging, spinning and zip-line features.

A signature buffalo sculpture designed by artist Ai Qiu Hopen serves as the park’s centerpiece, constructed from 2,000 individual stainless-steel birds that together stand 13 feet tall and 18 feet wide…
