Federal grand jury indicts Ionia corrections officer accused of stealing prison property

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — An Ionia County corrections officer who was facing multiple state level charges regarding weapons, meth, and stealing munitions from the prison he worked at has been indicted by a federal grand jury.

Casey Wagner, 34, was arrested in February and charged with possession of methamphetamine, felony firearm, embezzlement of equipment from the prison where he worked, and numerous charges regarding possession of automatic weapons and short-barrel rifles.

The charges were a result of an investigation related to the detonation of explosives at Wagner’s Ionia Township home, something his neighbor Loris Laroe told 6 News in 2025 made her feel like a “prisoner of her own home.”

Greg Sipka, who lived around the corner from Wagner, said they were dealing with “all kinds of explosions,” and told 6 News neighbors had seen him using homemade bombs.

Now, Ionia County Prosecutor Kyle Butler says his state-level charges against Wagner were dismissed Thursday, to “clear the way for his prosecution at the federal level.”…
