Internal investigation underway after Toledo police officer tells teens they are giving them ‘criminal indications’ after stopping them

Toledo police Friday morning issued a statement regarding a video circulating social media that shows two officers speaking with a group of teens, using expletives and telling the group they stopped them for having “criminal indications.”

In a video posted to Facebook by one of the teen’s mothers, two police officers speak with a group of teenagers who the mother said were walking up to a carryout to get snacks. She said police “circled them” twice, then “stopped, searched and antagonized them.” In the video, officers and the teens talk about another teenager who was recently arrested for allegedly shooting at her mother, and was the subject of an arrest in April that drew public criticism for police conduct.

One of the officers calls the teen from the April incident “a criminal,” and a teen in the video reacts by saying they aren’t criminals. An officers responds by saying, “I didn’t say you were,” and soon after says, “You’re giving us criminal indications. So we stopped you.”…
