This small south Louisiana maritime company landed $21M contract with the NOAA

A third-generation business owner, Stuart Chance saw an opportunity in 2018, when a defense contractor that bought out his employer, ASV Global, started to ignore its commercial clients.

So, he went out on his own and started his own company, Chance Maritime Technologies.

In the years since, the Lafayette-based company, which designs, builds and operates uncrewed surface vessels, has grown steadily, adding more to its client base. Earlier this month, it landed a $21.6 million contact with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to deliver up to eight versions of its high-powered ocean drone — the Chance LR30 — to support the agency’s new charting and mapping vessels…
