Whole Foods Issues Recall on Minestrone Soup Due to Possible Undeclared Shrimp
Whole Foods Market has recalled 24-ounce cups of its Kitchen Minestrone Soup sold in 17 states and Washington, D.C., after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration flagged a potential allergen risk. The recall was initiated by Kettle Cuisine, the Massachusetts-based company that produces the soup, following the discovery of undeclared shrimp in a single in-store cup.
The affected product, packaged in clear plastic cups bearing Lot Code 1762181 and a use-by date of May 27, 2026, was distributed across Alabama, Connecticut, D.C., Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The soup was also available nationwide through Whole Foods’ and Amazon’s online platforms.
The presence of shrimp-an allergen not listed on the label-poses a serious risk for individuals with shellfish allergies. To date, no illnesses related to this issue have been reported.
Customers who purchased the recalled minestrone soup are advised to return the product for a full refund. The product’s UPC code is 099482502065.
Whole Foods and Kettle Cuisine emphasize the importance of checking product labels carefully and encourage consumers with concerns to contact the store directly for assistance.
