BALTIMORE (WBFF) — The former deputy executive director of the ACLU of Maryland is accusing the Lyric Baltimore theater of discriminating against her and her adult son following an argument with racial overtones that erupted during a Mother’s Day outing.
Veronica N. Dunlap said Wednesday night that she has filed complaints with the Maryland Civil Rights Commission and is preparing a similar action to be filed with the Maryland State Arts Council. The complaints allege that the Lyric’s staff publicly humiliated her and her son, Massawa El, during a matinee performance on May 10 of the Washington National Opera’s production of “West Side Story.”
