Hartselle student advances to national stage after Tallulah win

Hartselle High School’s theatre program brought home a plethora of awards for their performance of the school edition of Big Fish: The Musical at the Tallulah Awards, an annually held program recognizing student musical theatre in Alabama. The event was held May 17 at the Von Braun Center Concert Hall.

Lucas McMinemon and Cooper Reid Estep were both semifinalists for Best Male Actor in the state, with McMinemon taking the title after advancing to the “Final Four” and performing live at the ceremony. He will now travel to New York City for 10 days of intensive training before ultimately competing in the Jimmy Awards, which are a national award show for high school musical theatre, airing on June 22.

In addition to McMinemon’s achievement, the production was recognized as a finalist for Production of the Year, Outstanding Production of the Year, Outstanding Ensemble of the Year, Outstanding Dance Ensemble (for both Cast A and Cast B), and the Spirit of the Tallulah’s Award to Emma Gregory…
