Blog: A wet Memorial Day Weekend. Not a washout

Yesterday a cold front slowly sank to the south through the day. It got pretty warm and humid though before the front arrived. High temps made it into the 80s. There were a few showers and storms popping up in the afternoon. Rain was heavy in spots.

The cold front slid south of Hampton Roads by the evening. Then it felt nice and cooler. Today the front has stalled out to our south.

It will stay stalled out in our region for pretty much the whole weekend. This will create a wet weekend, but it will not be a washout.

There was a nice swath of light showers when I got in this morning. It was mostly light and scattered.

Then there was some drizzle and a few showers during the morning commute.

So far we’ve picked up a trace of rain up to a tenth of an inch, but some lucky spots did get over an inch.

After the scattered showers this morning most of it should move out. Then I think we’ll only be looking at some spotty drizzle and showers as we go through the day.

We will definitely be cloudy and cooler all day. There will be a northeast breeze running at 10-15mph with gusts to 20mph. This will all keep our high temperatures in the 60s.

Some spotty showers or some drizzle will be around this evening. However, the rain is forecast to pick up late tonight (after midnight). This will continue into tomorrow morning.

This wave will move through in the morning. Then there should be a break for a while. Scattered showers and storms are expected to pop up again between the mid-afternoon and the evening.

The front will wiggle north a little bit. The wind will be light and out of the east. There may also be some peeks of sun. That should allow temperatures to reach the mid-upper 70s.

We’ll warm up a little more on Sunday as the front slides north a bit more. High temps will rise to the 80s.

However, the front will still be in our region. So we’ll have some on and off showers through the day Sunday.

There should be some breaks, but maybe not for too long. Over the next 48 hours I think we are looking at about a quarter to a half of an inch for many locations. Some lucky spots could get over an inch.

Fortunately/unfortunately we are expecting more rain on Monday. It could be a pretty wet day.

We do need the rain badly, but is it too much to ask for one dry day this weekend? Guess so. It will be warmer on Monday. Highs will be in the 80s…
