2 men rescued from bayou after being thrown from kayak

CENTRAL, La. (WAFB) – Two kayakers are safe after being rescued from Beaver Bayou on Thursday, May 21.

The water rescue unfolded around 5 p.m. in the 3500 block of Central Thruway in Central. Multiple agencies quickly responded to the area where the men were stranded.

According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO), the two men were kayaking in the area when they hit a tree and were thrown from their kayak into the water.

Deputies reported that the Central Fire Department deployed a drone to help find the men, who had made it safely onto a small area of land, and EBRSO Air One provided aerial support overhead.

EBRSO’s Maritime Response Team, patrol deputies, and emergency responders worked together to safely bring both men across the water, according to the sheriff’s office.
