Kalamazoo Candle Company files for bankruptcy to shed debt, focus on flagship store

KALAMAZOO, MI — One week after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Kalamazoo Candle Company owner Adam McFarlin admitted his company was growing too fast.

McFarlin, who started the company in his bedroom in 2013, opened his first storefront in downtown Kalamazoo in 2018. By 2022, he was operating additional storefronts in South Haven, Byron Center and Portage.
