Kia, Hyundai thefts on the rise in Decatur, police say

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — Decatur police are warning citizens about a surge in Kia and Hyundai thefts.

Decatur police say nearly a dozen Kia or Hyundai vehicles have been hot-wired and stolen since March, prompting them to issue a safety alert. The cars were taken from driveways, garages and parling lots.

Officer Jonathan Bates said they started to notice the thefts line up around the same time that people were being shown how to hot-wire the cars on social media…
