LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Memorial Day weekend is here, and communities across the greater Lansing area and in Jackson are marking the unofficial start of summer with ceremonies honoring fallen service members, fireworks, festivals and parades.

City of Lansing Memorial Day Ceremony: Lansing hosts its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Saturday at noon at the “Little Arlington” memorial inside Evergreen Cemetery.
Dansville Memorial Freedom Festival: Just southeast of Lansing in Ingham County, the village of Dansville is hosting its annual multi-day Memorial Day festival running Friday through Monday. The weekend includes carnival rides, vendor booths, live music and a community social tent. On Monday, the 48th Annual Bigfoot Challenge 5K and 8K race kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at the Dansville High School track, with packet pickup starting at 7:30 a.m. A Little Foot race for children 12 and under is also offered.
