MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is facing multiple charges after Tennessee Highway Patrol investigators say he climbed over a driver during a traffic stop on Interstate 240 and forced the vehicle to flee with two children inside before crashing.
According to an affidavit, a trooper stopped a black Nissan Maxima around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 16 on I-240 West near the Interstate 40 interchange because the vehicle’s temporary Arkansas tag had expired in April.
Investigators said the trooper approached the passenger side of the vehicle and spoke with the female driver and front-seat passenger, later identified as Xavier Glaspie, 26.
The affidavit states the trooper returned to his patrol vehicle to retrieve a state-issued cellphone to run the driver’s information when he noticed the Maxima’s brake lights flashing repeatedly and heard the engine revving.
