Memorial Day display in Henderson turns park into tribute to veterans

HENDERSON, Ky. — Nearly 7,000 white crosses stood in precise rows across Central Park on Friday, each one bearing the name of a local veteran and a small American flag fluttering in the breeze.

The annual display, which volunteers begin assembling by hand in early May, transforms the park lawn into a sea of remembrance that grows larger each year as more names are added. It remains in place through Memorial Day weekend as a community-wide tribute to those who served and have since died.
