The old sports cliché ‘saving your best for last’ took on a pair of meanings for Manny Burrus on Saturday at the KHSAA Class 3A State Track and Field Championships at the University of Kentucky.
The Madisonville-North Hopkins senior reached the state meet medal podium in his last race of the day and the last of his high school career.
Burrus competed in the first of three heats in the 200-meter dash, clocking a personal best 22.22 seconds. He waited through the second heat and still had the top time. He ended up in third place, just .05 seconds out of a state championship.
He finished in third place at the region tournament but came back to beat both of the runners who had edged him at the region…
