Owens Cross Roads sets strict fireworks rules for Memorial Day celebrations

OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. — As Memorial Day celebrations ramp up across the Tennessee Valley, the City of Owens Cross Roads is reminding residents about when and where fireworks can be legally used.

According to the city, fireworks are only allowed during a limited timeframe surrounding several major holidays, including Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, and New Year’s Day. Residents can legally use fireworks beginning one week before and ending one week after each holiday.

City leaders say there are also several restrictions residents need to keep in mind before lighting fireworks. Anyone using fireworks must be 16 years old, and fireworks are prohibited within 600 feet of schools, nursing homes, and churches unless a special exemption is granted…
