DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — Waterfowl in north Alabama will soon have more than 300 acres of habitat to call their own.
The Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in Decatur is working on a new, 335-acre sanctuary designed to provide a peaceful and protected space for thousan.ds of geese, ducks, cranes and other birds.
To help reduce human disturbance, Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge will close a one-mile stretch of road from the Buckeye-Thorsen Arm Unit between HGH Road and JTT Road to public entry, bikers and hikers from Nov. 15 to Feb. 28.
