AAA expects heavy travel Monday as millions head home after holiday weekend

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Memorial Day travel period continues through Monday, with millions of Americans expected to travel by car despite higher gas prices.

AAA projects more than 39 million people will drive over the holiday weekend nationwide, marking a slight increase from last year and making driving the most popular form of travel.

The agency said one of the busiest travel periods will be Monday afternoon, between noon and 5 p.m. Drivers are encouraged to leave before 10 a.m. to avoid the heaviest congestion…
