Borderland community remembers WWII veteran Capt. Azar

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Friends, family and the Borderland aviation community gathered to remember the life and sacrifices of Army Air Corps Capt. Richard Nathan Azar.

Decorated war hero. Successful businessman. Active in the El Paso and New Mexico aviation community.

On Sunday, May 24, a memorial stone was unveiled at the Santa Teresa Veterans Park at the Doña Ana County International Jetport.

Azar, who died in 2009, flew 50 missions over the South Pacific theater in World War II and served as the pilot captain for first lady Eleanor Roosevelt’s South Pacific tour, his son Bob said…
