DENVER (KDVR) — A toddler died after being rescued from a waterway in the Fort Collins area on Tuesday evening, according to a press release from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday afternoon.
Just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, Poudre Fire Authority and UCHealth EMS responded to reports of a child falling into an irrigation ditch that runs behind the homes in the 3100 block of North County Road 19.
Mother charged with murder in connection with daughter’s alcohol-related death
The irrigation ditch is fed by the Cache la Poudre River.
PFA swiftwater technicians began to search the ditch in the area where the child was last seen, but a neighbor found the child downstream and began to perform CPR on him. He was taken to a nearby hospital, but was later pronounced dead.
“This is a really tough one. Sudden loss is never easy, but losing a child is especially hard,” said Undersheriff Joe Shellhammer in the press release. “Our hearts are heavy today for this family and everyone who knew this little boy.”…
