You Can Have a Beer and Help to Save the Great Western Depots in Loveland

It’s great when there comes an opportunity to enjoy a Colorado craft beer, while also helping to hold onto a piece of Loveland history. Verboten Brewing in Downtown Loveland has given us that chance.

What is Verboten Brewing’s Fundraising Beer in Loveland?

In early June of 2026, Verboten Brewing & Barrel Project released its “Great Rail Pale” beer, in conjunction with Loveland’s Historic Preservations Commission. to benefit the saving of the Great Western Depots in east Loveland. A portion of proceeds of the beer will go saving the Great Western Depots that have been a part of Loveland’s history for over 100 years.

What is the Beer That Verboten Created to Help Raise Funds?

The Great Rail Ale, according to Verboten:

Made with all locally grown grains from Root Shoot Malting and hopped with CTZ, Cascade, and Huell Melon to lend notes of cracker, pine and tangerine peel.

I had a pint of the ale when they first tapped it; it’s a great beer.

What’s the History of the Great Western Depots in Loveland?

The Great Western Railway built their first passenger depot in Loveland in 1902; the small freight depot was installed in 1942. By 1985, the railway had shut down the passenger depot; in 2025, the Loveland Historical Society was able to raise funds to move the depots 60 feet to the south, with better stability…
