Grubbs starting with conversations, classroom visits, commitment to understanding

David Grubbs has spent three decades in Colorado public education, but the Estes Park School District’s new superintendent says his first priority in his new role is understanding the people, culture and programs that have made the district successful before putting his own stamp on its future.

“A big one is just getting to know the people,” Grubbs said during an interview Monday. “I’ve been a relationally-driven leader my whole career, and so getting to know what people’s ‘why’ is, understanding why they are here, is super important.”

The Estes Park Board of Education unanimously selected Grubbs as superintendent after a statewide search. He succeeds Ruby Bode, who has led the district through the past several years and helped oversee implementation of its strategic plan and Global Outcomes program.

Grubbs spent the past 20 years as principal of Grandview Elementary School in the Weld RE-4 School District. During that time, he also served on district committees focused on long-range facilities planning and labor-management relations…
