Leonard Sherman served as Berthoud High principal for 31 years

Longtime Berthoud High School principal Leonard Sherman recalls eating lunch with the high school students, being sure to alternate who he sat with each day.

“I made it a point to try to have lunch with the kids and to sit especially with the kids who kind of otherwise got lost in the shuffle,” Sherman said. “It was good to get to know the kids … and what they were interested in and what they were thinking about.”

Sherman served as principal of Berthoud High from 1978 until his retirement in 2009, a 31-year span that makes him one of the longest-serving principals in Colorado. Now, he lives in Loveland with his wife, Margory, and they have two adult children…
