While most of the cases of someone being drugged while drinking at a Colorado bar aren’t reported, many people fall victim. Bondie Beach Bar in Fort Collins has added drink protectors to help stem any occurances.
How Do the New Drink Protectors at Bondi Beach Bar Work?
According to the Collegian, Bondi Beach Bar began selling these reusable drink covers made of silicone for $2, beginning in early September of 2026. Judging by the photo that the Collegian captured, it looks like the cover has a slot for a straw, which does make it much harder for someone to spike someone’s drink, otherwise known as “slipping them a roofie.”
A Cause That Hits Close to Home for Bondi Beach Bar
Ashley Weber, a co-owner of Bondi Beach Bar and Grill, is a survivor of sexual assault, according to the Collegian; you can see where this would be an even more important issue for her and the bar. When you consider all the young people that patronize the bar, keeping them safe is paramount. Weber also sits on the board of Child Safe Colorado.
The Drink Covers are $2, But Many Are Given Out for Free
While Bondi does sell the drink covers for $2, with .25 of that going to the Sexual Assault Victims Advocate Center, they have been giving them out for free to incoming students at CSU and at events. Since they fit most cups, it’s great that Bondi is considering the students outside of their establishment.
Many on Facebook posted their thoughts on Bondi Beach Bar’s initiative:
Is there a way to donate to this so that we can fund them so they aren’t an additional fee?…
