DENVER ( KDVR ) — A man who claimed he was suffering from a methamphetamine-induced psychosis was sentenced on Jan. 18 to serve 51 years in prison for murdering his mother.

Gabriel Faudoa, 34, was accused of attacking and murdering his mother, June Faudoa, inside her Eaton home in May 2021, stabbing the 66-year-old 54 times. After the attack, Gabriel stole his father’s Chevrolet Impala.

Gabriel was arrested after he returned to the Eaton area about two hours after the murder, according to the 19th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Officers spotted him walking toward the crime scene.

At trial, Gabriel claimed the attack was due to a methamphetamine-induced psychosis.

A jury convicted him of second-degree murder and aggravated motor vehicle theft in November 2023.

“This is not merely a case about drug abuse or making an isolated ‘poor decision.’ This is a case of evil, pure and simple,” said Travis Winter, a deputy district attorney with the 19th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, during a sentencing hearing.
