Former paraprofessional pleads guilty to assault on children

DENVER ( KDVR ) — A former paraprofessional at the Poudre School District pleaded guilty to several charges stemming from assaults on at-risk students.

On Monday, 37-year-old Tyler Zanella pleaded guilty to the following charges:

  • Seven counts of at-risk assault – knowing/reckless injury
  • Two counts of harassment – strike, shove, kick
  • Two counts of child abuse – knowing/ reckless bodily injury

Zanella was originally facing 164 charges.

The charges stemmed from incidents back in April and May 2023. According to the Fort Collins Police Services, Zanella allegedly hit a kindergartene r with disabilities on multiple occasions while on a school bus.

Video surveillance from the buses was obtained by school resource officers who investigated the allegations. According to the footage, the kindergartener was struck by Zanella on April 25, May 19, and May 22, 2023.

Detectives also discovered additional victims and assaults. The detectives said there were a total of six victims who were all at risk due to their disabilities.
