Police said officers were dispatched around 1:20 p.m. to an area near West Elizabeth and South Shields streets, where a man reportedly dropped a handgun, picked it up and kept walking.

“When officers arrived on scene, they located the man still armed with the gun, and behaving in a threatening manner towards an adult female who was pushing two small children in a stroller,” Fort Collins police said in a release.

Police said responding officers found them near the intersection of Springfield and Southridge drives and recognized the man as a suspect wanted on a felony warrant.

“Commands were given to the suspect to drop the gun but he refused to comply. One Fort Collins Police Officer fired their weapon, striking the suspect,” police said.
