Longmont Woman Charged with Assault After Alleged Attempted Stabbing of Police Officer at Walmart

A routine theft investigation took a dangerous turn at a Walmart in Longmont when a woman reportedly attempted to stab a police officer. Robin Niver, 53, now faces a slew of charges, including attempted assault, assault on a peace officer, aggravated robbery, unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon, theft, and obstructing police.

The incident unfolded on December 19 at the Walmart located at 2514 Main St. Longmont police responded to a call reporting a theft in progress. Upon arrival, an officer spotted Niver pushing a cart of stolen merchandise on the sidewalk. As the officer approached, Niver fled, prompting a pursuit.

According to an affidavit, Niver turned towards the officer with a large butcher knife in hand and struck the officer in the lower right abdominal area of his vest near his medical equipment. The officer managed to subdue Niver and disarm her with the assistance of another officer. However, during the struggle, the officer sustained injuries.

Upon being apprehended, Niver denied any wrongdoing and claimed ignorance about the officer’s identity. She was later found to have approximately $100 worth of stolen merchandise from Walmart.
