Scooter rider facing life-threatening injuries after collision with large pick-up in Colorado

Police in Fort Collins are investigating a serious road collision that left a female who was riding an electric scooter with life-threatening injuries.

According to the police, the investigation has revealed that a 2021 GMC Sierra pick-up truck was traveling southbound on Shields Street and conducting a left-hand turn onto West Prospect Road when the collision with the scooter rider occurred at about 8:38 p.m. on August 21. The scooter rider was in the crosswalk on the east side of the intersection at the time. This intersection is located just southwest of Colorado State University.

The scooter rider was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, with an investigation underway to determine who had the right-of-way at the time of the collision.

Law enforcement reminded all travelers to obey traffic laws and follow appropriate traffic signals. It’s also worth noting that nighttime hours are an especially crucial time to play close attention to those traveling by means other than an automobile, as it can be more difficult to see those utilizing scooters, bicycles, and motorcycles.
