Larimer County is receiving applications to fund nature-based community projects

A Larimer County program that funds nature-based neighborhood and community projects through small grants is now receiving applications.

“For 26 years, the Small Grants for Community Partnering Program has awarded grants to communities throughout the county using a portion of the Help Preserve Open Space sales tax. Since its inception, the small grants program has awarded more than $415,000 across 238 projects across Larimer County,” a county release says .

Applicants can request up to $4,000 for projects that take place in Larimer County.

“Returning non-profit organizations, HOAs, K-12 schools, and community-based organizations are invited to apply for seed money or capacity support for projects that fit into one of the five grant categories,” the release says.

These categories include projects that:

  1. Enhance natural landscapes, including wildlife habitat, rivers, wetlands, parks and others.
  2. Provide environmental education opportunities.
  3. Improve access to nature to reduce barriers like limited transit and financial obstacles.
  4. Create opportunities for people to connect with the land through local food production on projects that implement practices that improve soil, water, habitat or community connection to agriculture.
  5. Involve research on Larimer County open spaces.
