Fort Collins Connexion celebrates 20,000 customers by giving away free internet

In honor of hitting a 20,000-customer milestone, the city of Fort Collins’ Connexion internet service gave out a year of free broadband to 20 customers on Tuesday.

Connexion notified the winners, who were randomly selected, two weeks ago and hosted them outside City Hall on Tuesday afternoon.

They handed out certificates, served Connexion-branded cookies and let the winners know their billing would reflect free service starting in October.

Many of the winners said that when they were notified they had won free internet, they thought it might be a scam. But their calls to Connexion confirmed it wasn’t.

Denise Johnson said she signed up for Connexion only weeks ago, right before learning she was a winner.

While skeptical of getting the city internet service at first based on past experiences with other city services, she said she’d heard good things about it through her property management company real estate brokerage and decided to sign up.

“We heard all the great things about the fiber,” Johnson said. “Everybody loves it.”
