This Rocky Mountain runner is the Fort Collins-area Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week

The first Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week of the 2024-25 school year picks up right where we left off last year : with a champion runner.

Rocky Mountain cross country runner Tyson Bhalla took top honors in the Fort Collins area for Aug. 19-24 after winning the Lobo Invite boys race at Spring Canyon Park on Aug. 24.

It was a fast start (literally) to his senior season, as Bhalla won his home meet in a time of 16 minutes and 13 seconds — nearly a minute faster than his time in the same event last year.

It was also the first race win of Bhalla’s high school career, and he should be one of Northern Colorado’s top runners this fall.

The Lobos runner had Rocky’s rabid fans behind him, earning a majority of the vote at 51.7%.

That ultimately won him Athlete of the Week over these other outstanding nominees:

  • Tanner Gray, Wellington football (runner-up with 32.5%)
  • Riley Honick, Rocky football
  • Erin Herrmann, Fossil Ridge softball
  • Molli Magana, Windsor softball

The Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week series features five nominees every Monday, with voting at Coloradoan.com until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday and the winner named on Thursday.
