Vern’s Place: Colorado Homestyle Cooking

Nestled in a small Northern Colorado town not far from the entrance to Poudre Canyon is a restaurant that has been in business since 1946. Vern’s Place is a little roadside diner with a big heart and is worth a visit.

Vern’s Place was opened in 1946 by brothers Willard and Vern Nelson. Seventy-eight years later the diner is still going strong. When the small roadside diner first started it also included a sporting goods store and gas station. In 1990, the restaurant was destroyed in a fire. But the diner was later rebuilt and reopened. After several owners, the restaurant is now owned by a local who frequented the diner growing up.

Vern’s is famous for many things. But what stands out the most is their gigantic cinnamon rolls. They are even bigger than the ones you find at Johnson Corners. Which is another Northern Colorado diner off I-25. They go for $5/roll or a 4pk for $16. They are well worth the price.
