Police search for cat thief after rescue stolen from Petco in Longmont

LONGMONT, Colo. (KDVR) — The search is on for a cat stolen from Petco in Longmont. Police are looking for the thief, while the rescue who saved the cat wants him back to ensure he’s healthy and safe.

At Soul Dog Rescue in Fort Lupton, pictures on the walls capture the nonprofit’s mission of rescuing animals from euthanasia and animal cruelty from tribal lands in the Four Corners region.

“There’s a lot of neglect, so we definitely work hard on that to get these guys better homes and to give them the life they deserve,” said Tawny Irmer, Soul Dog Rescue’s medical lead.

The nonprofit rescued a family of gray tabby cats from the Monument Valley.

One of the cats, 7-month-old Mandarino, was up for adoption at Petco in Longmont. He is microchipped and has his vaccines but was dealing with respiratory issues, so Petco called the rescue to pick him up over the weekend. But before they could pick up the cat, the rescue received another call from the store.
