Report: Colorado State a target for Pac-12 rebuild

Could Colorado State be headed to the Pac-12?

The Pac-12, of course, now only consists of two teams.

Oregon State and Washington State were left behind as the rest of the league flocked to other Power 4 conferences recently.

Those two leftover schools are competing in football in 2024 with a scheduling agreement with the Mountain West , but working inside a two-year NCAA grace period to be in a conference that meets the minimum threshold (eight schools).

Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports reported Wednesday night that the Pac-12 is targeting four Mountain West schools in a first phase of a rebuild of the conference.

The four are Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State and CSU, according to Dellenger.

“Those schools are expected to soon apply or have already applied for membership into the conference — the first step in the process to complete the deal. They would join the league starting with the 2026 school year,” Dellenger wrote.

Mountain West schools leaving would owe a $17 million exit fee, plus other penalties which were put in place as part of the MW scheduling agreement with Oregon State and Washington State.
