Poudre School District outpaces state, neighboring districts in state assessment tests

Poudre School District ranked among the top five large school districts in Colorado across all grade levels in every subject area in statewide assessment testing last spring, according to data recently shared publicly by the Colorado Department of Education.

The percentage of PSD students who met or exceeded expectations on the Colorado Measures of Academic Success tests at all grade levels for 2024 in English language arts, mathematics and science exceeded state averages by double digits, PSD spokesperson Emily Shockley noted in an Aug. 29 news release .

For English language arts, 59.3% of PSD students met or exceeded expectations for their grade level, compared to 44.1% statewide. In math, 50.1% of PSD students met or exceeded expectations for their grade level, compared to 34.2% statewide. And in science, where testing is limited to a much smaller sample size, 48.7% of PSD students met or exceeded grade-level expectations, compared to 32.7% statewide.

PSD students also exceeded state averages by significant margins in PSAT and SAT tests taken last spring by its high school students, topping the state by 20 percentage points — in PSAT math scores for both ninth and 10th graders and outperforming the state average by 15-18 percentage points in both PSAT and SAT scores in evidence-based reading and writing.
