Rocky Mountain Showdown pauses rivalry game for the next 5 years

DENVER ( KDVR ) — The Rocky Mountain Showdown , a rivalry between the University of Colorado Buffaloes and the Colorado State University Rams, is set for Saturday , but this is the last game of the tradition for the next five years.

The two Colorado teams play in separate conferences, but the schools create a deal where the teams would play each other in pre-scheduled matches, usually every few years.

However, the schools are taking a break after Saturday.

Ticket prices for Rocky Mountain Showdown soar to one of the priciest in NCAA this week

In 2021, the two schools signed a contract for a six-game series from 2029 through 2038, according to CU Athletics. During that time, the teams planned eight games over the next 18 seasons, which included a game in 2023 and 2024.
