According to investigators, the motorcyclist failed to yield and sped away from the officer.

The Garden City officer ceased efforts to pursue the rider. The motorcyclist eventually turned onto westbound U.S. 34 and rapidly accelerated before colliding with a vehicle less than a minute later, police said.

The motorcycle rider, an adult male, was pronounced dead on scene. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were extricated and taken to a local hospital. Police said the adult female passenger died at the hospital and the male driver remains in the hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.
