Fort Collins 6th grader wins national robotics competition

DENVER (KDVR) — Coding is something of an enigma. It plays a major part in our everyday lives, helped revolutionize technology, and without it the world we have adapted to might crumble.

Thousands of lines of numbers and letters that operate behind the scenes may seem like complete gibberish to the average person. But to a sixth grader in Fort Collins, those numbers and lines feel like home.

Diego is a student who attends Colorado Preparatory Academy , a virtual public school. He is beginning his first year of middle school. Although young, Diego is thinking at a level many adults would struggle with.

Diego is fascinated by the challenging world of coding and robotics. His passion for the field has found him competing in different competitions on a national level.

Over the summer, Diego traveled to the nation’s capital, Washington D.C., to participate in the K12 Robotics Competition. He competed against 411 students from the United States and ended up being one of the 11 semi-finalists who were invited to make the trip to DC.
