The next time snow falls, you might find yourself driving behind Scoop Dog, Snowbacca or the Blizzard of Oz.
Those are three of the six names given to city of Fort Collins snowplows by students in Poudre School District elementary schools.
And each now is emblazoned with individualized logos, including caricatures representing the snowplow’s name, on its doors. When snow is falling, you can follow their progress along with other trucks in the city fleet, on the city’s live snowplow tracking map .
Students at PSD elementary schools were asked to submit names for the six snowplows that now make up the city’s “Frost Fleet.” The city received 120 name submissions, which were narrowed down to 20 that snowplow drivers could vote on.
Here’s a list of the six highest vote-getters:
- Snowzilla − Bacon Elementary third grade
- Snowbacca − Beattie Elementary fourth grade
- Blizzard of Oz − Werner Elementary first grade
- Larry − Bennett Elementary first grade
- Abominable Snow Monster − Zach Elementary fourth grade
- Scoop Dog − Bacon Elementary fifth grade
