Fort Collins City Council changes rules to ban video, audio during public comment

Anyone who wants to make public comments at Fort Collins City Council will no longer be able to present audio or video clips in their accompanying presentations.

City Council voted Tuesday to make the change to their rules of procedure for meetings.

Council member Kelly Ohlson was the only one to vote against the change.

Commenters will still be permitted to bring visual presentations for display on the chamber’s screens as long as they are in a PDF format and do not have audio or video embedded in them.

Presentations must be submitted no later than two hours prior to the beginning of the council meeting where they will be presented.

In recent months, video shown during public comment has been related to the war in Gaza, some showing footage from the war or world leaders speaking about it.

Supporters of retail pet sales ban have shown videos showing footage of breeding facilities and pet stores.

Videos have ranged from short clips accompanying a comment to longer videos produced by nonlocal organizations.
