Fort Collins’ Pianos About Town project puts out call for 2025 artists, piano donations

Do you have an old, unused piano lying around?

Do you have the intense desire to paint an old, formerly unused piano?

If you answered “yes” to either of those questions, Pianos About Town wants your help.

The interactive public art project, which commissions the painting of donated pianos before placing them around Fort Collins to encourage spontaneous playing, is looking for its next crop of pianos and local artists.

The program put out a call for artists in December and will be accepting applications — including a letter of intent and concept rendering — until 4 p.m. Feb. 19. Selected artists will receive a $1,000 honorarium, according to The Bohemian Foundation, which puts on Pianos About Town in collaboration with the City of Fort Collins Art in Public Places Program and the Downtown Development Authority.

A pair of virtual sessions will be held on Jan. 29 and Feb. 12 to provide resources for potential applicants.
