For snowshoe beginners and others wanting to see an iconic Colorado winter landscape through the eyes of an expert, Rocky Mountain National Park is the place to be.
The park is returning its free ranger-led tours this month through March. Reservations can be made seven days in advance — and you might want to jump on it.
“Snowshoe walks often fill, especially if the day is forecast to be warm and sunny,” reads the park’s informational webpage.

Space is limited; the outings are capped to 20 people ages 8 and older. Individuals can make reservations with up to six people in a group.
While dates for tours from the park’s Estes Park side were still being determined at last check, tours from the western, Grand Lake side are set for 1 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday.
The park’s west side is also returning Nordic ski tours for ages 16 and older at 10 a.m. on Saturdays. New to the Grand Lake side: kid-friendly snowshoe walks catering to families with kids ages 5 and older. Those are set for 1 p.m. on Fridays in February.
