Mosquitos make the news in Colorado mainly as a threat to transmit West Nile Virus. This was the virus that caused 51 deaths in 2023 and is just one of many deadly diseases that can be transmitted to humans from a bite. WNV is transmitted by Culex mosquitoes.

The symptoms can include fever and even neurological issues, and is most dangerous to people over 60, or those with weak immune systems.
